Penicillin, pacemakers, even tea bags – all these creations were born from slip-ups, so why is there so much shame around making mistakes? In the world of graphic design, many shy away from crazy grids, colours and typefaces for the fear that they may be mocked in the same way they mock designs found on lampposts, notice boards and in takeaway menus. My proposal is to encourage mistakes and allow irregularities to show us a new perspective. Cringe Club is a place where everyone is free to make blunders, and is represented through music and typography. Using amateur design as my muse, I have created pieces using the wackiest typefaces I could find, paired with the lyrics of karaoke classics, a genre that embraces the cringe which everyone secretly loves.
